This month, I want you to focus on two more of the Reiki Precepts:

                                  Just for today, I will not worry.

                          Just for today, I will not get angry.


To be clear — this does NOT mean we pretend there’s nothing wrong.  It does NOT mean we deny our emotions.  It DOES mean we honor what we’re feeling, and then work to master our emotions and redirect that energy to a higher level of awareness and expression.  What exactly does that mean?

It means instead of just throwing up our hands in frustration or cursing out the gun lobby or terrorists or the administration, we start by stopping, taking a deep breath, and looking deep within our own hearts.  We surround ourselves with white light; we visualize the Reiki healing symbols; we send distance Reiki to everyone involved — victims, their families, first responders, everyone around the nation and the world watching the story unfold, and feeling fear.  We take responsibility for being part of a solution, and realize every prayer has limitless power when it’s the sincere desire of the heart.

We also realize that we are each tuning forks, and can raise the vibration of everyone and everything around us by intentionally keeping our own energies in a state of higher awareness, so only good can come and go from us.  Meditate on those two precepts, and realize that both worry and anger stem from fear. I believe the concept that there are only two energies in the world — love and fear.  Fear cannot exist simultaneously in the same space as love.  Through faithfully doing your daily self-treatments, and meditating on the precepts, you don’t just “do” Reiki — you ARE Reiki.  Of course you will still feel pangs of worry and fear.  But in your path to mastery, you will acknowledge these lower vibration emotions, and consciously raise them into a place of compassion, connection, patience, grace and unconditional love.

I have NO doubt that we are here together during a time of tremendous change and shifts.  What is so sacred and powerful is that with each Reiki treatment, whether on yourself, a loved one or client, a pet or a global situation, you are helping to raise the consciousness of that change.  Embrace this truth, and BE the light that you are.  Meditate and journal about your personal experience, and how you’re mindfully working to master yourself and be of service in bigger and different ways.

An Open Letter to my Reiki Students

Dear Reiki Healers,

We have a new sacred opportunity for our spiritual growth, and it was underscored today in a very dramatic incident.

Last month, in the spirit of the Thanksgiving season, we focused on expressing gratitude.  You had the challenge of finding an element of gratitude in what might on the surface appear to be merely an annoying or unpleasant situation.  Eleven days after sending out that assignment, the world stood by France as Paris suffered another attack. You had to search for SOMETHING for which to feel grateful in the aftermath of the event.

Earlier today, another tragedy played out on TV screens around the globe as at least three people stormed a San Bernardino building to kill 14 and wound 17.  As I write this, the area is still on lockdown, and authorities are conducting door-to-door searches to see if any other suspects might be hiding.  No one has yet claimed responsibility for the deadly attack.  We can help heal the energy surrounding it.
